With a medical membership of over 18 million and a network of over 1 million health care professionals, Aetna® is one of the nation’s leaders in health care insurance.  Offering a broad range of insurance products, Aetna is noted for providing its members with access to convenient tools and easy-to-understand information that can help them make better-informed decisions about their health and financial wellbeing.

Aetna offers a variety of first-rate health insurance plans, including Medicare Advantage Plans designed to save you money and provide the comprehensive coverage you need.

Medicare Advantage (MA) Plans

Are optional Medicare plans offered by Medicare-approved private companies and available to people already enrolled in both Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B. Medicare Advantage plans can provide additional coverage in various areas of health including dental, vision, and hearing, and most plans also include prescription drug coverage.

Medicare Advantage Plans are voluntary, but any MA Plan you join will provide all your Medicare Part A (hospital) and Part B (medical) coverage. Medicare Advantage (also called Medicare Part C) Plans have to provide all the benefits covered by Original Medicare except one. Whether you have a Medicare Advantage Plan or not, Original Medicare covers hospice care.

MA Plans are available to people already enrolled in Medicare Part A and Part B who live in a plan’s service area. Although people with Medicare Advantage Plans normally pay a monthly MA Plan premium along with their Medicare Part B premium, some Aetna Medicare Advantage Plans offer a low-premium or no-premium option.

Among the popular Medicare Advantage options are Medicare Private Fee-for-Service Plans, Medicare Medical Savings Account Plans, Medicare Special Needs Plans, Health Maintenance Organization Plans, and Preferred Provider Organization Plans.

Health Maintenance Organization Plans (HMOs)

Can provide great coverage but normally require referrals from primary care physicians and treatment by specialists and hospitals within the plan’s network. Fortunately, with a network as extensive as Aetna’s, that shouldn’t be a problem.

Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) Plans

Can offer even greater coverage and flexibility by allowing you to use doctors, hospitals, and providers outside the network. You can save money by staying within the network, but you have the option, at additional cost, of going outside the network for medical services.
